GOLD-PLATE AND STERLING SILVER

All HERMINA ATHENS jewelry is made of recycled; 925 sterling silver and all gold-plated jewelry receives a 1 micro plating. Our jewelry features either a polished or matte surface. Note that a matte surface may develop a shinier appearance with regular wear.

Care Tips:
  • To keep your gold-plated or sterling silver jewelry as shiny as possible, preventing oxidation, we advise you to avoid contact with water, perfumes, lotions, or cosmetics.
  • Swimming, showering, or exercise is not recommended whilst wearing jewelry, as it will tarnish the metals over time.
  • Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place – ideally its box.
  • Avoid keeping your jewelry in the bathroom because of the increased humidity generated by showers and sinks.
  • Wipe your jewelry clean with a soft cloth before putting it back in its storage.
  • Do not wear jewelry when in the swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna/steam room or while bathing or showering.
  • Chlorine, detergents, and oils can all cause tarnishing and damage.
  • Remove jewelry when doing household tasks.
  • Minimize contact with hard surfaces whilst wearing your jewelry.
  • Coil chains gently to prevent damage in storage.
Important things to consider:
  • 100% pure silver is too delicate and fragile to be used in jewelry. Sterling silver or silver 925 (meaning 92.5% silver) is the purest form of silver used in jewelry but can oxidize. The speed of the oxidation process depends on the wear frequency and is especially quicker on items like rings and bracelets, which come more often in contact with surfaces and water.
  • Chains, especially thin ones, tend to break or get twisted if they are pulled, even slightly.
  • Keep your chains fastened so they don’t become tangled when stored.
  • Jewelry boxes are a great place to keep your jewelry, but you should keep in mind that it does not protect the sterling silver pieces from tarnishing and oxidation.
  • Make-up, perfume & hairspray all contain chemicals, which may dull the finish of your jewelry.
  • The gold plating must get a new gold layer on when needed.

FRESHWATER CULTIVATED PEARLS

All pearls are cultured in freshwater and assessed for their unique shape. Quality pearls are very durable, but proper care is necessary to keep your pearl jewelry beautiful and lustrous.

Care Tips:
  • Wear them!!! Pearls were originally born in the water and benefit from absorbing the oils that your skin naturally secretes throughout the day.
  • To clean your pearls, gently swipe them with a soft cloth to remove sweat, perfume, excess oils, or dirt before putting them away.
  • Do not allow the gold-plated or sterling silver castings come into contact with soap or water, when you clean your pearls.
  • Pearls should be stored away from other objects or jewelry that may scratch their surfaces. Wrap the pearls in linen, soft cloth, or place in a soft pouch.
  • Do not store pearls in an airtight package such as a plastic bag, since pearls need moisture.  If the environment is too dry, the pearls may crack.
  • Keep pearls away from chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, ammonia, hairspray, perfume, and cosmetics, as these substances will damage the pearl surface.
  • Avoid hanging the pearl necklace on a hook for storage; this places unnecessary strain and stretches out the necklace.

ZIRCONIA GEMSTONES AND SEMI-PRECIOUS STONES

All our zirconia gemstones and semi-precious gemstones are handpicked and ethically sourced. Some are believed to have special powers, but all of them are uniquely beautiful. Like any other gemstone, they need to be protected and cleaned in order to preserve their radiance.

Care Tips:
  • Clean your zirconia gemstones and semi-precious gemstones carefully with a soft, non-abrasive, and lint-free cloth to bring back their shine.
  • If necessary, you can use a mild washing-up liquid with warm water and a soft toothbrush, then rinse with clean water. Once you are done with the cleaning process, lightly pat them dry with a soft cloth.
  • Take them off when showering, exercising, cleaning with soap or harsher cleaning materials and solutions, as well as when putting on lotion and perfume.
  • Use a jewelry pouch to separate and protect your jewelry. You may also separate the jewelry pieces inside the jewelry box.
  • Keep your zirconia gemstones and semi-precious gemstones jewelry shining for longer by cleaning them every few weeks.

  • Clean your enamel pieces with warm water, a mild liquid soap and a soft cloth.
  • Store in a dark, cool place to prevent damage.
  • Keep your enamel away from harsh chemicals, perfumes, detergents, and chlorine.
